The Conference 2002 is thus a debate concerning knowledge in all its aspects for science and society, conducted between personally-invited participants, thereby helping us to prepare and structure the conference planned in the coming year(s) on a broader scale.

We have chosen three focused aspects, which we think have relevance to the umbrella topic.

The three "discurse themes" suggested are:

1. Science and Public Trust
2. A Call for Better Communication through Participation
3. In Search of Common Goals among Opponents: the Example of Intellectual Property Rights
