Kurt Rüegg studied Physics at the ETH Zurich and the University of Zurich.

During his industrial career, he worked on the development of interfaces and surfaces, thin layers (Nanotechnology) and in the field of packaging .

He has been designing for ewl energie wasser luzern and has been responsible for water and natural gas supply since 1995. He became president of the Swiss Gas and Water Industry Association (SVGW) in 2007.
