Janet Hering

Janet Hering is director of EAWAG (Swiss Federal Institute of Aquatic Science and Technology) in Dübendorf.

She was born in 1958 and studied at Cornell and Harvard University (MA). In the year 1988, she earned a Ph.D. in Oceanography at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

From 1988 to 1991, she worked as a research assistant at the chemistry department of EAWAG. From 1991 to 1995, she advanced in her academic position until she became adjunct professor at California University in Los Angeles, in the field of environmental studies.

Then she worked in the area of material and environmental studies until 2006 and was professor of the Department for Environmental Studies and Technology at California Institute of Technology.
