Growth – Constraint or Opportunity? Only what grows and becomes bigger and those who create new spheres of in-fluence are considered to be successful. This has brought growing prosperity to mankind, especially in the West, over the past two hundred years. Is this kind of growth endlessly possible? Voices warning that all types of growth will reach their limit are becoming louder and louder. At this year’s conference, the Aca-demia Engelberg will ask the question of how economic, ecological, societal and eth-ical concerns can be harmonized with our human needs for growth. Scientists such as Prof. Joel Mokyr, Northwestern University, Evanston/USA, Prof. Gebhard Kirchgässner, University of St. Gallen, Prof. Guoquiang Tian, A&M University, Tex-as/USA, emeritus Prof. Hansjörg Siegenthaler, University of Zurich, Prof. Ernst von Weizsäcker, UCSB, Santa Barbara/USA, Prof. Josef Reichholf, TU Munich and leading representatives from the worlds of economy and politics such as Federal Counsellor Doris Leuthard and others will expose their opinion and discuss the issue. The dialogue between science, politics and society shall open new ways and lead to the development of new visions and concepts. It is the intention of the Academia Engelberg to also discuss those issues with media representa-tives. Ensure your participation at Academia Engelberg, Beatrice Suter, KommunikationsWerk-statt on the phone +41-41-660 96 19, fax +41-41-660 96 28, or by email: media@academia-engelberg.ch |
