Prof. Dr. Günter Müller 

  
 

Günter Müller (*1948) studied business in Mannheim; doctorate in Duisburg 1976, qualified as lecturer (venia legendi) in Computer Science at the Vienna University of Economics and Business Administration in 1983. Visiting scientist: 1973 IBM Sindelfingen, 1976-1978 IBM San José Research, California, USA. Joined IBM Deutschland GmbH in 1978, became head of department in 1981; in 1985 founder and director of the European Centre for Network Research at IBM Heidelberg. In 1987 Director of IBM, Computer Networks.

In July 1990, offered a position as founding director of the Institute of Information Technology and Society and a Chair in Telematics at the University of Freiburg. Visiting scientist in 1992 and 1993 at NTT Japan, from 1993 to 1999 head of lecture series on “Security in communications technology“, Gottlieb Daimler and Karl Benz Foundation, in 1994/95 member of Science and Technology Forum, Japan. In 1995 state parliamentary Commission of Enquiry of Baden-Württemberg, in 1995 visiting scientist at Harvard University, John F. Kennedy School. In 1996 member of the advisory board for the federal parliamentary Multimedia Commission of Enquiry, in 1998 visiting scientist at ICSI Berkeley, in 1999 Alcatel foundation professorship, Darmstadt. Visiting scientist in 1997/1999/2000 with Hitachi Research Japan. Since 1999 spokesman for the German Research Foundation (DFG) programme on “Security in Information and Communications Technology“. In 2000, Expert of the federal government at the conference on “Modern Government in the 21st Century”.
